Mercedes-AMG covers everything from four-door sedans to a gullwing supercar, and the G-Class sits in a category of its own, with some of the strongest resale values of any luxury vehicle. Because demand is broad, you'll usually get competitive offers locally. The exceptions are collectible cars like the SLS and the Black Series models, which belong with specialist buyers.
This guide covers the G-Class (the G-Wagon) and the AMG models most often sold.

How buyers look at each Mercedes-AMG model
G-Class (current generation)
2019–presentThe redesigned G-Class is the most in-demand version. Buyers compare the G 550 and G 63 closely, and the AMG Night Package, manufaktur paint, carbon trim and larger wheels can move the price. The electric G 580 joined the range for 2025.
G-Class (earlier generation)
2002–2018The earlier G 500, G 550, G 55 AMG and G 63 AMG. Condition and service history drive value, and limited models like the G 550 4x4² sell to their own collectors.
AMG GT
2016–presentThe two-door sports car in GT, S, C, R and Black Series form. The second-generation car arrived for 2024. The Black Series and GT R carry premiums.
SLS AMG
2011–2015The gullwing-door supercar and its roadster. Collectible, especially the GT and Black Series. Originality, mileage and history matter most.
AMG sedans and coupes
Various yearsC 63, E 63, S 63, SL 63 and others. These sell much like other used luxury cars, on mileage, condition, warranty and options. Older cars with the 6.2-liter V8 have an enthusiast following.
What moves the price
- Version and generationG 550 or G 63, pre- or post-2019, GT or GT R. Make sure every offer is for your exact version.
- Options and packagesAMG Night Package, carbon fiber trim, manufaktur (formerly designo) paint and leather, upgraded audio, larger wheels and driver-assist packages.
- WarrantyRemaining factory warranty or Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned coverage adds value, especially on AMG models.
- Service historyDealer or specialist records, on schedule. On older 6.2-liter V8 cars, buyers often ask about head bolt and camshaft history.
- Condition and modificationsG-Wagons are often customized. Aftermarket wheels, wraps and body kits narrow the buyer pool, so keep and include the original parts.
How to sell a Mercedes-AMG, step by step
- Gather the details: VIN, mileage, options, photos of every angle and the interior, and your service records.
- Get written offers from two or three buyers who handle Mercedes-AMGs. Send each one the same details so the offers are comparable.
- Inspection. The buyer confirms the car matches your description, either through a local inspector or a detailed video call.
- Agree the final number and paperwork. Get the price, any deductions, the transport arrangements and the payment timing in writing.
- Payment, then pickup. Funds (or your loan payoff) are confirmed, then an enclosed transporter collects the car and you sign over the title.
Most G-Wagons and AMG models sell locally, but collectible cars like the SLS often go to buyers out of state. For those, ask for enclosed transport and confirm it's included.

Selling a Mercedes-AMG with a loan or lease
Most Mercedes-AMG owners who sell still have a loan or lease on the car. That doesn't stop a sale; it adds one step.
- Get a payoff quote from your lender or leasing company. Ask for a 10-day payoff figure and the exact payment instructions.
- Give it to the buyer. A professional buyer pays your lender directly and sends you whatever is left. That's your equity.
- If you owe more than the offer, you pay the difference (negative equity) before the title can transfer.
- For a lease, check first whether your leasing company allows a third-party buyout. Some only let the original dealer buy the car.
Keep copies of the payoff confirmation and the lien release. The full loan and lease walkthrough covers the paperwork in more detail.
What to have ready
- Title, or your lender's details if there is a loan
- Valid registration and a government-issued photo ID
- All keys and fobs
- Service records, organized by date
- Owner's manuals and books
- Window sticker or build sheet showing packages and manufaktur options
- Mercedes-Benz dealer service records
- Original wheels and parts if the car has been customized
Common questions
Do G-Wagons hold their value?
Better than most luxury vehicles. Demand for the G-Class is strong, especially for the 2019-on G 63, though values still move with supply and the wider market.
Is a G 63 worth much more than a G 550?
Usually, yes. The G 63 costs more new and has more buyers on the used market. Compare offers for your exact version and options.
Can I sell a leased G-Wagon?
Often. Get a payoff quote and check whether your leasing company allows a third-party buyout. If the car is worth more than the payoff, the difference is yours.
Should I sell my SLS to a dealer?
Get a dealer offer, but compare it with specialist and auction estimates. The SLS is a collectible car, and specialists or auctions often value it more accurately.
